Born in Corsica, Napoleon for almost three decades. His reforms had an enduring impact. Mythologized as a ruthless conqueror, Napoleon cast himself in a different light: I rewarded merit regardless of birth or wealth, wherever I found it. I’ve abolished to before the law.
